In the recent past, we have been getting many queries as to what are the language pairs we offer translations to and from Urdu. To know why that maybe and the answer to what Urdu translation services we offer, read on below.

About Urdu

Urdu (اُردُو‎), is a persianized and standardized register of the Hindustani language. It is the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan, and an official language of six states of India. It is also one of the 22 official languages recognized in the Constitution of India. Hyderabad, Rampur, Bhopal and Lucknow are noted Urdu-speaking cities of India. Apart from specialized vocabulary, Urdu is mutually intelligible with Standard Hindi, another recognized register of Hindustani. The Urdu variant of Hindustani received recognition and patronage under British rule when the British replaced the local official languages with English and Hindustani written in Perso-Arabic script, as the official language in north and northwestern India.

Growing requirement for Urdu translation services

Urdu is most widely spoken in Pakistan followed by India. Both Pakistan and India are two of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world.

Latest research reveals that India is set to become the third largest consumer market by 2025. Rising affluence will make India the third-largest consumer market by 2025, making it imperative for companies to adapt their business models for meeting the changing customer needs. Consumption expenditure will increase three times to hit $ 4 trillion by 2025, according to a report by the Boston Consulting Group. India’s rising status as a consumer-country is attractive to global marketers who are trying to make inroads into the country before competition heats up. Recently, Pakistan’s stock market crossed the 46,000 point milestone. Investor sentiment is increasingly bullish. After the recently completed three-year economic reform program, Pakistan’s real GDP growth is almost 5% – at par with Malaysia (4.7%) and not far from that in Indonesia (5.8%).

A sizable chunk of our Urdu translation services requirements relate to translation of marketing brochures into Urdu, translation of websites into Urdu, translation of manuals into Urdu, and translation of press releases into Urdu for brands eyeing for consumer recognition.

While India and Pakistan are fast-growing consumer countries, neither is lagging behind when it comes to selling. As per latest research, manufacturing has emerged as one of the high growth sectors in India. Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, had launched the ‘Make in India’ program to place India on the world map as a manufacturing hub and give global recognition to the Indian economy. India is expected to become the fifth largest manufacturing country in the world by the end of year 2020. The Government of India has set an ambitious target of increasing the contribution of manufacturing output to 25 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025, from 16 per cent currently. Pakistan too has seen rapid development in manufacturing as the government is privatizing large-scale parastatal units, and the public sector accounts for a shrinking proportion of industrial output. Growth in overall industrial output (including the private sector) has accelerated. Pakistan’s industrial sector accounts for about 24% of GDP. Cotton textile production and apparel manufacturing are Pakistan’s largest industries, accounting for about 66% of the merchandise exports and almost 40% of the employed labour force. Cotton and cotton-based products account for 61% of export earnings of Pakistan. The consumption of cotton increased by 5.7% over the past five years while the economic growth rate was 7%. By 2010 the spinning capacity increased to 15 million spindles and textile exports hit $15.5 billion. Other major industries include cement, fertilizer, edible oil, sugar, steel, tobacco, chemicals, machinery and food processing.

Besides manufacturing, India and Pakistan’s service sector growth story is also an astounding success story. India’s technology and BPM sector (including hardware) is likely to generate revenues of US$ 160 billion during FY16 compared to US$ 146.5 billion in FY15, implying a growth rate of 9.2 per cent.  In Pakistan too, the services sector is important as it contributes 53.8% to Pakistan’s GDP. Its major sub sectors are Finance and Insurance, Transport and Storage, Wholesale and Retail Trade, Public Administration and Defense.

The number of Indian and Pakistan students going abroad to study is also growing at a faster pace than ever before. With more and more Indian and Pakistani students looking to go abroad, there is a surge in demand for translation of academic degrees, certifications and academic transcripts from Urdu into English and other languages.
