In the recent past, we have been getting many queries regarding our Bengali translation services, more specifically, as to what are the language pairs we offer translations to and from Bengali. To know why that maybe and the answer to what Bengali translation services we offer, read on below.

About Bengali

Bengali also known by its endonym Bangla  বাংলা is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in Indian Subcontinent. It is the national and official language of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and the official language of several eastern and north-eastern states of the Republic of India, including West Bengal, Tripura, Assam (Barak Valley) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. With over 210 million speakers, Bengali is the seventh most spoken native language in the world. Bengali is the easternmost Indo-European language, it has been influenced by other language families prevalent in South Asia, notably the Dravidian, the Austroasiatic, and the Tibeto-Burman families, all of which contributed to Bengali vocabulary and provided the language with some structural forms. Dictionaries from the early 20th century attributed slightly more than half of the Bengali vocabulary to native words (i.e., naturally modified Sanskrit words, corrupted forms of Sanskrit words, and loanwords from non-Indo-European languages), about 30 percent to unmodified Sanskrit words, and the remainder to foreign words. Dominant in the last group was Persian, which was also the source of some grammatical forms. More recent studies suggest that the use of native and foreign words has been increasing, mainly because of the preference of Bengali speakers for the colloquial style. Today, Bengali is the primary language spoken in Bangladesh and the second most spoken language in India.

Growing requirement for Bengali translation services

Bengali is most widely spoken in Bangladesh followed by India. Both Bangladesh and India are two of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world.

Latest research reveals that India is set to become the third largest consumer market by 2025. Rising affluence will make India the third-largest consumer market by 2025, making it imperative for companies to adapt their business models for meeting the changing customer needs. Consumption expenditure will increase three times to hit $ 4 trillion by 2025, according to a report by the Boston Consulting Group. India’s rising status as a consumer-country is attractive to global marketers who are trying to make inroads into the country before competition heats up. Not to be left behind, Bangladesh’s consumer class is also swelling and dispersing. Although only some 7 percent of the country’s current population can be classified as middle income or affluent, compared with 38 percent in Indonesia, MAC Bangladeshis will account for around 17 percent of the population by 2025. Consumer wealth is also dispersing regionally: projections indicate that within the next decade, 63 cities will have MAC populations of at least 100,000, compared with 36 now.

A sizable chunk of our Bengali translation services requirements relate to translation of marketing brochures into Bengali, translation of websites into Bengali, translation of manuals into Bengali, and translation of press releases into Bengali for brands eyeing for consumer recognition.

While India and Bangladesh are fast-growing consumer countries, neither is lagging behind when it comes to selling. As per latest research, manufacturing has emerged as one of the high growth sectors in India. Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, had launched the ‘Make in India’ program to place India on the world map as a manufacturing hub and give global recognition to the Indian economy. India is expected to become the fifth largest manufacturing country in the world by the end of year 2020. The Government of India has set an ambitious target of increasing the contribution of manufacturing output to 25 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025, from 16 per cent currently. Bangladesh too has seen rapid development in manufacturing as the government is privatizing large-scale parastatal units, and the public sector accounts for a shrinking proportion of industrial output. The Bangladesh economy has witnessed significant structural changes over the last four decades. The share of agriculture in GDP has declined while the relative significance of industry and services sectors has increased substantially. Over the past two decades or so, Bangladesh has experienced sustained overall economic expansion. Manufacturing is now an overwhelmingly salient component of the country’s export composition, thanks largely to the rapid expansion of the RMG industry.

Besides manufacturing, service sectors are increasingly becoming the core of Indian and Bangladesh economy. In the context of South Asia where growth rates in services sector has been fluctuating during the last two and a half decade, India and Bangladesh have been the exceptions with consistent growth. India’s technology and BPM sector (including hardware) is likely to generate revenues of US$ 160 billion during FY16 compared to US$ 146.5 billion in FY15, implying a growth rate of 9.2 per cent.  In Bangladesh too, the annual average growth in services has increased from 3.71 percent in 1981-90 to 4.48 percent in 1991-00 to 5.67 percent during 2001-05.

The number of Indian and Bangladeshi students going abroad to study is also growing at a faster pace than ever before. With more and more Indian and Bangladeshi students looking to go abroad, there is a surge in demand for translation of academic degrees, certifications and academic transcripts from Bengali into English and other languages.
